 Will my IP be protected

I have an idea for a new invention and I really need a prototype built but I am worried that if I talk to you about it, that it may effect my ability to secure a patent or that you may tell me it is a bad idea and take it for yourself?

Your IP is perfectly safe with us.

We understand your concern and want to assure you that we consider ourselves under an NDA at the beginning of the very first consultation whether we have signed one or not. Talking to us will not jeopardize your ability to secure a patent. Our code of ethics strictly forbids us from discouraging you for the purpose of stealing your intelectual property.

A question about your rates?

Hi, I know a few places have project minimums. What is your minimum? And what do you charge for laser cutting?

We don’t really have a project minimum..

Of course there is a certain amount of work involved to get any project going, and in that, there are certain expenses accrued. But we don’t have a policy in place that says we dont lift a finger for less than, say $150..   Typically, our research and design work is $65 per hour. Our shop labor is $50 per hour. We also can generate a price per unit in some cases. In regards to the charge for laser services, we generally charge $40 per hour for that or charge by the project.

May I just rent your equipment and use it myself?

I am pretty good at making stuff but I don’t have many tools. I don’t really need you to do this if I can have access to your equipment?

Sorry. That just isn’t possible.

Our equipment is not available for public use. I have no way to guage your training on this particular equipment, and it is very easy to damage the equipment or yourself without the proper training. Also, We are not insured in the manner that would be appropriate for such an arrangement.

Can I commission you on credit?

I have an awesome idea for a product but my money is all tied up at the moment. Would you be open to building this for payment later or possibly a percentage?

Usually not.

Typically, we do not do that, however, depending on the situation, we may be able to make an arrangement.
