First class Medals

We were asked by a Mom we know if we could come up with a prize for a children’s summer reading group. The children were all second  graders and were part of the summer group as an activity for both fun and to enhance reading skills.  After discussing it with the mom, and doing a few sketches, we came up with the design for a medal.  The medals were laser cut from 1/4 inch clear acrylic and then the lettering was laser etched.  They were about 3″ in diameter.  After that they were primed and then finish coated with metallic gold auto finish spray paint.  They ended up with a nice “minted” look.  We used red, white, and blue striped fabric ribbon to string them for hanging around the neck.   The kids loved them and were so excited to receive their “medals”.  The parents that came to the “medal ceremony” loved them, too.

The first photo shows a medal under construction, the second photo shows the group of children after the medal ceremony. The masked faces were just for fun.
